What’s New in the New Grading Policy in Sindh?

Under the new grading system, the old marks-based system has been replaced. This means that instead of just giving marks, students will now get grades based on percentage ranges. The government aims to align grading with modern standards and create uniformity across educational boards.

Passing Marks Changed

Starting in 2026 for Class 9 and 11, and 2027 for Class 10 and 12, the minimum passing percentage will be 40% in each subject. If a student scores below 40%, they will be considered “Ungraded” (U) and not pass that subject.

Why This Change Matters

This reform is important because it affects millions of students who are preparing for board exams. The previous system used numerical marks, where students passed with 33% marks. With the new system, the passing requirement increases to 40%, which means students need to work harder to meet the new standard.

What This Means for Students

  • More effort needed: Students must now secure at least 40% in each subject.
  • Grades instead of marks: Each performance level is shown as a grade.
  • Possibility to reappear: Students who fail can reappear in the subject to improve their result.

This change also brings Sindh’s system closer to international grading standards, but without rolling out a full GPA yet. Officials say GPA might be introduced later, after the new policy runs smoothly.
